Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on this part of the island of Montreal called the West Island. A lot of people who aren't aware of about the place mistakenly think that it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to dance however a rapid growth rate meant that she literally outgrew her dance partners. A lot of dancers go from dancing to acting. For the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who nudged her to go in this direction. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. In the last 20 years, the roles played by Brugel on television and the big screen have varied. The role of Rita in the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the only Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the series, and only seen occasionally.
